Re: Duties

I have a first aid certificate, mainly for use in my OTHER life. First aid in schools is not part of the job description, it is supposedly a volunteered job.You have to have a current first aid cert to do it though. I am the first port of call for the first aid for the whole school from the science ...

Re: Phenolphthalein Agar

Great excuse to ask for chocolates! And lots of them. I have a perspex ferrero rocher chocolate container that is about 21 cm square, the base is 2cm deep and the top 1cm. Makes an excellent setting dish for the agar. I have figures out the amounts to make so it works out perfectly. Then I just run ...

Re: Flame test kits

I am curious about the soft drink bottle method? I am having visions of a melted blob of plastic over the bunsen.
At the moment I am using pop sticks but am open to new ways.
Cheers

Has anyone ordered from this company lately? I am waiting for an order that I placed in November last year! Everytime I go to cancel he tells me that it is on the way. I think that the company must wait until they collect lots of orders then they get a supply on the slow boat from China. I won't be ...

Re: Can anyone be forced to work in Science?

I'm with Smiley, sometimes scare tactics are the best answer because NSW DET (department of education and NO training) says we are to be multi skilled so we can be moved to any department at any time. It's actually up to the school Principal in the end, mine has said she won't allow anyone here with...

Hi, I have repaired quite a few tanks here as well as help the marine studies class make small aquariums each year. The best silicone to use is selleys glass silicone sealant clear in a blue tube which says on it for windows and aquariums. Have had a student use another type of silicone and wonder w...

Hello, I got the job last year of doing the ordering for the whole school using the smartbuy system. It nearly drove me NUTS!!! Actually it still does. The search system is ridiculous. You have to pretty much second guess what the person setting up the system had in mind and I think they must have b...

I think a couple of our students would be good candidates for this. Yesterday two students hooked up two transformers and then connected one wire with bare wires on the end (they removed the alligator clip) into the powerpoint. Teacher didn't know what they had done and when he touched the setup it ...

Re: Intoduction to Data Loggers for laboratory support staff

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I won't be going to St Marys (can't afford the expense for this either) but maybe if I give him a call there might be enough interest to get a course up this way.
Have a great holiday.

Forgot to say it costs $220.00 but you might need to explain to the money holders at your school that $220 is small price to pay for knowledge for your safety. (OH&S issue.)

professional learning program for laboratory assistant staff

Just in case lab assistants in the North coast didn't get a flyer. A two day workshop is to be run ( providing they get at least 10 applicants) at Port Macquarie 26 & 27 November and at Ballina 30 Nov and 1st Dec. I have attached the flyer that was sent to me. Anyone new to the science area woul...

Re: Science Focus users

We have been using the focus books for a couple of years and there are some dodgy experiments in them. I have kept a track of a couple and each year when we get up to them they are marked so we remember to do them differently. By memory I think even some of the morse codes in one of the levels are w...
