Flammable cupboards

Hi, we are going to do a science refurb and I will be getting <drumroll> a flammable cabinet! :clap3: I was wondering if there is anywhere where it says that flammable cabinets have to be stored in a chem store in schools - I am assuming they do, but can't find it written. I do know that they need t...

Re: Laundry

I mentioned to home ec about the laundry powder MSDS and the fact that they are diluted in about 200L of water and not in the same wash as home ec stuff. The response was" That's for the principal to decide "

Re: How long do you have for orders?

And as if to prove the point - teacher stole 10 scalpels from another teachers tray when I was out, as well as metho and iodine - and left them in the lab!!!! This was after my email (rather politely) asking people to leave the place tidy and work safely. So apart from leaving me wondering where 10 ...

Re: Laundry

I ask because up till now they have been washed in the machine in the home ec laundry (Seperatly from the home ec cloths) but apparently home ec are getting narky that their cloths are somehow going to be contaminated by the highly diluted mLs of chemical on the science cloths, and are pushing to ge...

Laundry

For those of you that use cloths instead of/ as well as paper towel in the lab for cleaning - how do you get them laundered? Do you use an outside company, use a common work washing machine, a laboratory specific washing machine, or tkae them home and do them 8O .

SDS + Chemwatch

Hello learned people. My MSDS es hit 5 years old early next year and will need replacing. At the moment most of them are generic ones printed from Chemwatch, but I have heard different people say that supplier MSDS should be used. I believe most suppliers do not have SDS format yet, but chemwatch ha...

You can get your teachers to read CSIS! 8O :clap3: I'm sure that most of mine have no idea what it is, despite my regular references.

ferric ammonium citrate

I am trying to find info on a chemical (ferric ammonium citrate) that the art department has in " cyanotype solution". The bottle says: Cyanotype solution - ferric ammonium citrate - 25g, 10g potassium ferricyanide, 200mL H2o. I can not find ferric ammonium citrate anywhere in CSIS. Can an...

Chemicals in classrooms

Hi People, I'm wondering about the general consensus of storing chemicals in labs. We have one lab set away from the prep area and there is a side shelving unit with lockable glass sliding doors where there are some chemicals kept. If it is lockable is this OK? Or should I relocate them to the Chem ...

Re: PD day on chemical security

Sunray, your place sounds like mine. Teachers, admin, cleaners and groundsmen have access to my preproom .I know that at least some teachers from other faculties have keys to the chem store, and I suspect that the cleaners and groundsmen have too. There are no locks from the labs to the prep room , ...

It says in CSIS NR (not a regulated dangerous good) But the MSDS says class 8: and also says it should be segregated from : strong reducers (hydrides, nitrides, alkali metals, sulphides), sulphuric acid, nitric acid of any kind, alkalies, oxidising agents, and carbonates. :-( At the moment I have it...

Sorry if this has been posted before. I did a search and couldn't find it. I've just beeen printing out a bunch of labels for metals from chemffx and have noticed that magnesium and zinc show "do not add water" . We often use metals for testing reactivities in solution and pop tests. Are t...

Re: Annual Chemical Stock Take

I haven't been here long, but I did the whole school at the end of last year through chemwatch , kept a copy here, and sent a copy to the head office. (Is this general practice?) But I don't think anyone looks at it and no-one asked to sign it. Can you tell me where it says the principal should sign...
