Re: Conc Sulphuric Acid
I have some rather old bottles of conc Sulphuric acid that the labels have discoloured and they seem to be "sweating", even though some have not been opened and still have tape around the top. Is it OK under the rules to take these labels off and put new GHS labels on them? My worry is tha...

Re: transformers/powerpacks
Sorry I meant to say all the other powerpacks were reading correct to half a volt, but I think you got my gist. Thanks Ocker, you're a man of many talents.

Re: transformers/powerpacks
O that guy Sunray! Well, I'd simply been hooking the powerpacks up to a DC voltmeter, and testing/reading the voltage as I turned the dial to 2V, 4V, etc. All the other voltmeters were reading correct to about half a volt, but this one was reading 14v when the dial was turned to 12V. The type is ST9...

Re: transformers/powerpacks
dumb question, but where are the fuses situated, and do they look like the ones in microscopes?
Sorry, I'm not a particularly electrically gifted, but I know enough that I don't want to hit a capacitor and end up in the next edition of Darwin Awards.

Re: transformers/powerpacks
Any idea how much it cost? I have one that is reading high on the voltmeters (ie dial says x, voltmeter says x+y). Last time I had a broken but potentially fixable powerpack I asked our maintenance/ groundsman who sid they weren't worth the cost. Not sure how accurate that is

Does anyone know where you can get dissection scissors sharpened? Or do you just chuck them and get new ones?

Does anyone still use spirit burners for junior classes?if so what fuels do you use? I ran it through risk assess and it said that students should be kept back from burners or behind a perspex shield! It also recommended that if fuels are needed that metaldehyde or hexamine tablets are used. It did ...

A girl after my own heart! It's the sporran that does it Ocker! I've had success! Used agar made without the bicarb, in a thinner layer, and poured bicarb over the top of the set agar , which was in a thinner layer. Also used plate electrodes of stainless steel. My green seperated quite well after ...

Re: Electrophoresis
Hey guys, I just had a go at this. a mediocre result after 90 minutes, so a few questions for the brains trust - 1) What do you use for electrode wire? The references I got off the net said stainless steel wire, I tried copper wire because that's what I had about. Does steel wire ( or old coathanger...
