Re: MOLARS

Hi Tammie
Why don't you just make up 10g in 100ml for glucose and 20g in 100ml for salt?

Do you actually need the molarity?

Re: Taste Tests and PTU

What does PTU taste like? When and where would you use it? I think it has a bitter taste and is used in genetic testing. Apparently you inherit the ability to taste the bitterness or PTU or not. It is linked with the ability to taste the bitterness of certain foods. It is also used to treat certain...

Taste Tests and PTU

Hi All,

One of our teachers has just asked for Phenylthiourea(PTU) to do taste tests. Apparently some people can taste it and others can't.
Does anyone know a substitute for this that would have the same effect?
PTU costs $182/25g ,he's got to be kidding!!

Thanks

Re: Ammonium nitrate

Hi! How recently did you buy it and where did you get it from?? I ordered some recently from Serrata but was not supplied with it. They no longer stock it. When I contacted Silform chemicals the gentleman I spoke to said that no matter what quantity you buy, you require separate licences to buy it, ...

Re: Ammonium Nitrate

Hi all, I think it is a lost cause. I've just checked the Chem-supply website and there was no listing for this chemical. I also spoken to a lovely gentleman from Silform and he informed me that they will probalbly no longer carry this chemical. The government require individual licences for importi...

Re: Van De Graaf Generator

Hi Pommy, I did a major clean of ours a couple of weeks ago. I used brasso and this worked really well. The instruction manual actually said not to use anything too abrasive on the suface as you don't want to scratch it. I also pulled the whole thing apart to clean the rollers too. The other thing t...

Hi All Thanks for your replies. I spoke to Eddie Bishop re the CRO (not the Crow HA HA). We seem to have ironed out the problem. We are also using it with a wave lab, one day we had signal and the next day nothing!! The frustration!! I'm not very good at physics stuff so it adds to the challenge!!
