Re: Labtek
Haven't bought anything as yet but they were very helpful recently in sourcing some samples of gloves I was after, so I'd recommend them on their customer service. As I only needed a couple of pairs, I was impressed that they gave them to me without obligation!

Re: Preserved specimens.
I might be alone on this but this is my thought on the matter. We have numerous specimens which have been here much longer than I have (15 years) by the looks of them. They are very likely to be in formalin, no way of knowing. BUT I feel seeing the formalin is regarded as carcinogenic I am reluctant...

Re: Thread for pulleys
mazza,
Have had a look at their website. Did you buy the serabraid?? It looks like the thread we used to use and I'd be keen to buy some more. Could you please tell me what you paid for it??
Thank you
Robyn

Re: Cleaning test tubes
I find HCl works well getting rid of rust stains - just fill the tube to just above the stain with 4 - 6M HCl and leave for a couple of days in the fume cupboard (with a corrosive sign!!). Then wash as usual. I resuse the acid time and time again and it works every time! Have had the same bottle for...

I have 6 working labs too in 3 different buildings but also do TAS - adds up to a day (or more) but spread over the week - I do all the science + compile all the food orders, shopping, special orders for school functions and bookwork for TAS. I swear one day I'll take the hearts to TAS and the steak...

Have just been updating the DG codes on our chemicals and notice that now Chemwatch has copper sulfate as 6 Toxic, and there are several new candidates for Class 9 Miscllaneous. Here I go again rearranging the shelves.

I really think that the teachers should be doing the Chemical Safety courses as well - any course is directed at us and then there are certain teachers resist what you tell them what you have learnt.

Re: Bromothymol blue
The posts on the bromothymol blue remind me of a “problem†we were having while back with our universal indicator. Despite my having checked the reaction, and finding that the results were the same despit the colour of the reagent, my teachers were throwing away bottles of universal whic...

Yes it is very scary. They started drilling in the Keerrong Valley just shortly after we moved out (we didn't know it was about to happen either). In fact one of the presenters on that youtube video was a direct neighbour of ours. It's amazing that such a thing can occur without the consent of the l...

So it seems I haven't been doing anything wrong! He said I could cause problems, for my Head Teacher and Principal by not doing the right thing! I take safety seriously and why would i jeopardise anyone's safety especially my own!!

I ended up buying the carbon paper from ebay for $17.55 / 100 sheets inc postage - a big difference from the $84 I found on 2 other sites. My HT and SAM were very happy with that. 100s sheets will see me out!! Thanks for the tip.
