Re: Lab coats

We got ours (secondhand but in good condition) from Omega Scientific in SA. The 2010 prices are $22 inc GST plus freight.
Might be worth comparing the total including freight as they seem to vary quite a bit.

Microscopes wanted in NT

Hi there, my chances may be slim, but no harm asking....
We're after some microscopes, preferably donated as we're over budget already.
We're in Katherine, but could pick up anywhere in Darwin.
Any offers? [-o<

Re: Sodium Dichromate for cleaning glassware

No really, we have laws now!

Last year they even introduced a speed limit!!

And now they're talking about banning regular people from letting off fireworks in their own back yard!!!

How Draconian is that?????????? :D

Re: Sodium Dichromate for cleaning glassware

Thanks guys. It's just regular lab glassware, but some of the stains are really bad, there's rust on some, limescale on others, and unidentified in yet others. I'll try the Napisan next, at the moment they're soaking in citric acid as someone had suggested somewhere, we'll see if that does the job. ...

Re: Audit time

Lyn's info raised another question for me, and that is: When is a chemical old? There's stuff in the cupboards here opened in '99 and most other stuff was never dated. One of the past science teachers told me not to worry, they'll be fine, chemicals don't go off, but I'm wondering. I'm also wonderin...

Sodium Dichromate for cleaning glassware

I've just bought some Sodium Dichromate to clean stains from glassware, but now our one and only fume hood has died so I'm waiting for the electrician. I've got the instructions for how much to use and how to mix with Sulphuric Acid etc, but not whether it should be done in fume hood.Does anyone els...

Re: Just bragging really

Life in the North is rather special isn't it. I get the pleasure of lifting the cistern lid and trying to push aside 13 green tree frogs to get the flush happening every time I use the disabled loo next to the lab. When I first arrived last year I actually put in a maintenance request for a faulty f...

Re: 2M copper sulfate

I Concur but any extra will just form crystals in bottom of bottle! Speaking of crystals, Ive got a bunch of test tubes with CuSO4 crystals stuck fast at the bottom and no idea how to get them out. :-( A few came loose with a vigorous shaking but most are stuck fast and resisting the test tube brus...
