Hi. In the transcript of the Southern Biological tutorial, it says 1% agar and 0.1% NaHCO3. I've tried that and it works really well.

If you wash and freeze some endive, you can break little bits off to feed them. They really like that. Scoop out any excess and replace every couple of days. We didn't have aeration. We do a similar prac. Junket tablets are very hard to come by these days, but Southern Biological sells junket powder. We use hand operated vacuum pumps (originally bought for E coli determination). They are in the current Science Supply catalogue on page 89. They aren't cheap, but ours have lasted twenty years and are still going strong.

Hi Laurina. You said you used 10mL borax to 250mL water. I'm not aware of liquid borax. Did you mean 10g? I think that 4%, so you should be right. It takes a bit of dissolving in cold water.
