Re: Phenolphthalein Agar

I have used milk or juice cartons for moulds. Cut out the base to low height required, for 1,2or 3 cm blocks. Measure the height with a ruler allowing a bit more for shrinkage. Relatively easy to unmould , using knife blade around the sides or /and pull apart , cartons are flexible. Place cutting bo...

Re: 0.1% DCPIP

To Lynda
I am Lab Ass. in Alice Aprings and also have been envious of this CSIS thing, and have assumed it was for the lucky NSW people. If you find any access to it I would be grateful if you passed it on to me.

Re: Making NaCl

One of my favourite experiments is "Pass the Salt" in textbook Science Quest 4 by Lofts and Evergreen. Basicly a titration using HCl against NaOH to neutralisation point Phenolpthalein as indicator. I use 1M solutions so they get a good amount of salt. Pour the, or some of the neutralised ...

I have used the llight in the Hodson Light Box set, kept in it's ray box which acts as a bit of a light shield. Not spectacular colour change. We used it to demonstrate light colour relationship with temperature for stars.
