Re: cleaning the science labs
Is it my job to clean out all the cupboards in all the labs? I have 7 of them, one of which is cockroach haven.. I just do not have the energy to sit on the floor and wash out each cupboard individually.. and I wonder why I should do it.

Re: Animals in schools
My s-i-l teaches at a large school in Victoria and they have snakes.. they have so many of them that they have a demountable building full of their cages AND a large outdoor snake pit area beside the buildings. They have a never-ending supply of student volunteers to help and the teacher who started...

Re: AUDIT
I have even been told that it is not my job to do the whole school, but when the info came in - guess whose desk it was passed to? When I queried that, I was told that "no one" else had the time, 'someone' had to do it, 'no one ' knew how, and 'everyone' knew I had the skills, then it all ...

Re: Talc
Thinking about the Moh's sets.. we do not have the top 3 - diamond, corundum or topaz - in the kits, now we are withdrawing the bottom one.. well that only leaves the middle lot of 6 testing items.. and IS it still in the curriculum? My 4 sets get used only twice each in each year.. a lot of fuss an...

As I drive through Sydney and Newcastle I look at the thousands of 50's 60's houses, mostly public housing .. and they are ALL clad ins...

Does anyone else have a pet peeve about all the photos in text books that show the Bunsen burner sitting on a heat pad? Teachers follow these photos and teach the kids to do that, and I spend my time trying to point out that is is illogical. A Bunsen burner base does not get that hot - the heat mat ...

We had Yabbies, stick insects, fish tanks.. but because the HOD had to sign as Animal Welfare Officer and there are strict rules - we now have NONE. I am not sure whether I am sad or happy. At least I don't have to come in on holidays to feed fish or take 3 huge cages of stick insects home to take o...
