Re: End User Declaration

Remlap, I'm at a private school. I do all the ordering and then my HOD signs the order form and our finance office pays the invoices. If legally, the end user is meant to sign, would that not be every teacher , or student, that uses it ? Does my legal responsibility end when I hand the Mg Ribbon to ...

Re: End User Declaration

Hmm...I have all the accounts with our suppliers under my name and emails to my email address but the bills ( invoices) go to the school to pay. This is how I've always had it. Should I change it? If the accounts get changed to a different name, am I still able to do the orders or does she have to d...

Re: End User Declaration

My HOD was happy to sign it but MTA told me it had to be me as the account is under my name and I'm the one ordering it, I had to be the one signing it. I think I'll change the account and put it under his name.

Re: End User Declaration

Hi, I've just gone through this and because I placed the order for the Mg Ribbon, I was told I had to sign the EUD not my business manager or HOD. This was going through MTA ( formally known as Seratta ). I don't feel comfortable about it because I'm not the one that will be using it. I wonder what ...

We use green capsicum as our catalase, with 6 %( or sometimes 3% ) H2O2. Works great every time.

Re: Another question about SDS

I agree with linotas. My understanding is, if the product is a domestic item and is used as per the instructions on the bottle, no SDS is needed. It would only be needed if you intended on using the nail polish remover for a prac.

Re: Teaching Safety to New staff

Hi Kate, We use a variety of what has already been mentioned. There are online WHS safety induction courses to complete ( for all staff not just science),a staff handbook and an induction form to be completed and signed by both the new teacher and the person giving the induction ( usually me for sci...

Re: Potassium dichromate solution wine titrations

I just told my HOD about potassium dichromate and we looked at the SDS. The first thing she said was to get rid of it, it's too dangerous. 8O
We don't do wine titrations. We use HCl and NaOH for our titrations.

Re: Airconditioning labs

Does anyone know off hand what chemicals are meant to be kept at what temperatures? Other than going through all the SDSs,where could I find a list?
It will help me with my heat risk assessment.

Thanks

Re: Airconditioning labs

I am going through this exact same thing. According to WHS regulations, you have to take a lot of things, not just air temperature, into account. They have a distinction between heat discomfort and heat illness risks. Things like, humidity, radiant heat, heat sources, staff health, type of clothing ...

Re: 1M NaOH label in Chemwatch

I have noticed a few discrepancies on labels too. I can't remember which one it was but Chemwatch had different pictograms on it's labels for the same chemical when i had printed them off only weeks apart. It's getting so frustrating. I contacted our head office WHS lady and she is going to table it...

Re: Fridges in Lab prep areas

Dear all, I am on central coast recovering from the April 2015 storms. Our biology freezer with tongues, rats and other animals bits and pieces was without power due to the widespread blackouts for at least two days. I have returned to work and it is all refrozen so I do not know how soft things got...

Re: CSIS training for new and long-term staff

That would be my understanding too linotas.
I know I haven't received any information regarding GHS or chemical safety, or anything to do with my job, from anyone else but other labbies.
If it wasn't for this wonderful site or my network of labbies up here, I would be completely lost.

Re: CSIS training for new and long-term staff

To add to sunrays comment, if we are classed as being non-compliant because CSO won't purchase the new documents, who is legally responsible?
I would assume it would be CSO.

Re: GHS labels

Sunray you have hit it on the nail. My HOD and principle would have no idea what the regulations are or how we are supposed to follow them. If it wasn't for Chemtalk, I would have no idea what I was doing. Saying that, it still seems to be unclear as to exactly what we have to do. I have printed all...

You poor thing Labbie, I have 7 labs and 3 prep rooms and work 28 hours a week and I'm also the WHS rep so feel your pain! How many students do you have that you need 5 prep rooms? How big is the school? Is it spread out? I have asked for LSL for the first 4 weeks of term 2 next year. I don't get re...
