Re: Risk Assessments

Im with Smiley, I cant recommend 'Risk Assesss' enough.!!!!! It does the prac request and the RA all in one and as we have to keep the RAs for 30 years, I save all of mine electronically into folders on the school drive and then onto a thumb drive at the end of the year. So easy and efficient. As pa...

Re: Living specimens allowed in schools?

We are about to breed fruit flies for genetics. I was wondering the same thing but after correspondence with the Dept of Primary Industries, the fruit flies you can buy from Southern Biological are fine as long as you don't breed the "true" fruit fly which originates from QLD.

Re: Microscope repair / training

Thanks Everyone, After doing a search on chemtalk and coming up with a few names I had one of those 'just by chance moments'. Microscope repair / training

Hi everyone,

Two questions

1. Can anyone advise me of a microscope repairer that is willing to come to a small country town and not cost my yearly budget

and

2. Is there anywhere I can get training in microscope repair so I can do my own microscopes.

Thanks in advance

Thank you

Re: Ideas for Yr 3 science club

Hi Sharon, Another really easy but effective one is bread clip boats. Fill a shallow dish with milk, gently place the bread clip on the surface. In the hole of the clip drop a drop of food colouring and a drop of detergent. Then just sit back and watch your boats speed off. Boat races are a good hit...

Calcium sulfate - ppt???

Hi,

We are doing the HSC ion testing prac and we cannot get CaSO4 to ppt. We have tried a range of concentrations of cation and anion (0.1-1M).

The flame test works fine and the BaSO4 precipitates just fine...

Is there a trick to precipitating calcium sulfate?
