Not a prac request... but I did just overhear a YR 9 student ask "which one is the diluted water?" I can only assume (and hope!!) that he meant 'distilled'...

Re: 3-D glasses
Type 3D glasses into google. I did this a while back looking for some, and they are out there! Some are quite expensive but I vaguely recall seeing some that were around $1 each... The teacher I did the research for isn't in today but if I think of it next week I will ask her if she still has the pr...

Thanks Helen,
I have the catalogue and just found them (had looked in it but missed the tiny pictures!). They are half the price so it looks promising!

Drainers
Hi All, I'm hoping to order some drainers for our glassware. I have seen 2 types advertised by Haines but I was wondering if you know any other suppliers that have them so I can do some research and price comparisons and hopefully find the best to suit us. I currently have 1 and it is constantly ful...

I enjoy reading these too when I have the time. Astronomy was one of my favourite subjects at uni but now i don't have time to really think about it myself... There is so much interesting stuff out there!

Re: Ammonium Nitrate
It is in the Q Stores catalogue - 2520575 so maybe give them a call? The number is 1800424613. You may get the same story though, but I guess it's worth a try.

Re: Zinc Nitrate?
PS. I just had a look and it is on page 261 of the CSIS. Maybe you just missed it? Easy to do... I was looking for a chemical the other week in our store and couldn't find it. I looked everywhere! I told the teacher who wanted it that we didn't have any... then the next day I went to get something e...

Re: Zinc Nitrate?
I have it listed as green in my book which lists the chemicals we have. It was done by a previous labbie so I don't know where the information came from. Other info: years 7-12, user code 1,2 and 5. Not H. Hope this helps. I also hope it is correct!

It didn't work!
Hi all,
I followed the directions given by Mother earlier in this topic and it didn't work at all. Any ideas on why this might be? I think we will go back to using DCPIP next year!

Hi,
I usually would go collect it myself (and have done that) but we were all meeting up for afternoon tea that afternoon.

thermometer stoppers for distillation prac
Hi everyone, I am trying to order some thermometer holders (see attached) and I'm being very unsuccessful! I have looked through several catalogues (can't recall which ones though - I thought I was on a winner with Livingstone but i didn't get what I thought I was going to get. They are onto it now ...

Universal indicator
Hi All, Here is a general question for you... I have 3 bottles of universal indicator in my cupboard. They are three different colours. Is this normal? One is green (neutral), one is yellow and another is a yellow-green colour. I just went to refill our dropper bottles which currently contain yellow...

Re: DCPIP Solution
I have had this same problem - needing DCPIP tomorrow! We can hold off till we order some next week, but I was wondering if anyone has tried the iodine and starch experiment suggested in an earlier post. Does it just test for the presence of vitamin c or do you need different amounts to make it chan...

aluminium sulfate
Hey guys, Thanks for your answers. I guess I didn't say it very clearly. It was more getting it to dissolve rather than the mathematical side... Sorry! I am glad someone else has had trouble with this. I wonder what the bottle of 1M aluminium sulfate really contains? I just started out trying to mak...

I wear redback work boots. I bought my first pair about 5 years ago when I worked on a cattle station and they are still in reasonable condition. I have bought other pairs since then and claimed them back on tax. The older ones become outdoor/muddy weather ones (not that we get that very often these...

cleaning
Mostly the classes clean up after themselves. I have a tray for things that they can't get clean in their sinks that I then wash up in the prep room. Sometimes glassware gets left out and I'll put it away but if I am really busy usually someone from another class ends up putting it away anyway! The ...

cell models
Does anyone know how to make a cell model using grapefruit, a walnut, clingwrap, sticky tape and present ties? We have a teacher away for a few days and this is one of the pracs to be done while she is away and the replacement teacher isn't sure what is required. I've not seen it before either. Rosa...
