Hi Amy,
We bought an induction coil at the beginning of the year and our physics teachers loves it. I got it from Serratia at a total cost of $291.5 including GST. You can go to their web site and register and have a look around at their products.
Hope this helps

Sterillising agar plates.
I was wondering what all of you labbies who like me, do not have an autoclave, do to sterilise used agar plates? What are the alternatives to autoclaving?

Re: Safe Work Procedures?? Risk assessment
Hi Megs,
I too seem to spend my time planning and re-planning all of these safety documents. I would love to get a copy of yours.
Thanks

Re: To lock or not to lock?
We always lock the door when there is no one in the lab. That way both the lab and prep room are locked.

Re: Phone in preproom
I also have a phone in the prep room, which has come in handy as I have been accidently locked in the lab (walk through the lab to get to the prep room) twice now and have had to ring for assisstance.

Re: DET schools that were closed due to floods
Our school was closed down both Friday and Monday and nothing has been said about having to apply for leave. You didn't choose to have the day off you were made to, therefore it is not your problem. I would fight this tooth and nail!!!

Re: Laboratory Officer
So who actually makes the decision to change our titles? When I go to my HT and say my title has officially changed from Lab assistant to Lab officer (or Lab manager as I prefer) what can I back this up with? I know I deserve the title manager I certainly manage the lab, the teachers, the budget, th...

What to wear
I am a bit like Patti, I try to dress 'professionally' as this is a private school with a dress code. I definately look better than most of the teachers and I don't need to dress as well as I do but it is a pride thing, I am repsresenting the school and trying to show professionalism to the students...

Thankyou so much Carol you have been a big help. One last question what sort of power supply do you need to run it?

Hi Carol,
What you described is exactly what I am looking for. Do you know where you got them from and how much they cost?

Spectrum discharge tubes
Hi All, I am stuck! We already have a few spectrum discharge tubes, but I am trying to find a range of tubes with either increasing or decreasing pressure (obviously each displays a different colour until you reach Faraday's dark space). This is an actual physics experiment mentioned in the HSC syll...

Phenolphthalein agar sheets
Hi All,
I need to make some phenolphthalein agar sheets 0.5cm, 1cm and 2cm thick. I have tried to do a search but it does not seem to work. Does anyone have a method?

Re: Do we know pracs in advance/provide classroom service?
I am really lucky. Our head science teacher set up an experiment request page on our school extranet site under science. The teachers have to have their requests in by Monday for that week but usually they are in a week in advance. It comes up on the web page as a monthly or weekly calander (which e...
