Re: lab furniture
I know Westlab do mobile benches with Gas/liquid/power. No idea how, but might be worth talking to them? Don't think they do mobile sinks though. Might need fixed sinks around the outside and mobile benches in the middle?

Re: Copper sulphate and iron filings
The green liquid is iron sulfate, probably with some copper sulfate left over. I'm assuming it's fairly dilute, and as long as you don't have litres and litres of it, it should be fine to dilute down the sink. The brown precipitate will be copper that has coated the iron fillings. Both of which are ...

Re: Limit on number of Practicals done each week?
Hopefully my bosses don't see this. I work in a small by Tasmanian standards college (Years 11 and 12 only) and if I worked out my service factor correctly it does not start with a 0, and even if I include 2 subjects that run in the science block that aren't strictly science then it still does not ...

Re: Ordering for Practical Lessons
This is the first year the teachers have booked their pracs online via Risk Assess. When I set it up, I let them know that I would need at least a weeks notice for most pracs. They started out well, but are slipping already! So I've set mine for 5 days

Re: Ordering for Practical Lessons
RiskAssess is one of the best things you can do. If the head teacher is concerned about someone 'selecting the wrong level of risk' ask how the level of risk is decided now, and who is responsible if things go wrong currently? Short of that, there is a full chapter on RiskAssess on how to select the...

Re: Limit on number of Practicals done each week?
I also work alone in a private (Christian) school. Admittedly I work four days, but teachers are basically allowed to book as many pracs as they want. My worst this year has been 14 in a week, but I was very clear that any pracs needed at least a weeks notice, otherwise they basically couldn't do it...

Water Filter Replacement Cartridge
Does anyone use a 'D340 Labwater' as their deionised water filter? If so, where have you gone for replacement cartridges?

Re: printers
When I started here, I was walking all over for printers whenever I did a label or a risk assessment. First thing I did this year was get them to move an unused printer from another room into my office. Best thing I did. Toner and paper come out of the admin/consumables budget I believe, but they ke...

Re: Ammonium hydroxide solution
Hi all, I'm a little confused with ammonia... We have some droppers labelled Ammonia solution 0.1m, and then we have ammonium hydroxide solution 0.1m. I was having a google and I'm not 100% sure but is ammonia the same as ammonium hydroxide? Or is ammonia the gas and ammonium hydroxide the solution...

Re: Prac Storage and Delivery
I have bench space in the prep room that I use for storing pracs until needed. Most times, the prac is just one tub's worth. I do have some trolleys for use when the prac has more than one tub's worth of equipment. I actually don't have much space for storing trolleys because I have two large bench...

Re: Prac Storage and Delivery
Most of our pracs are prepared in such a way that each group (8-12 groups in a class) have their own tub with everything they need in it. With the potential for 22 classes of 12 groups, I don't think there's enough bench space in the world

Prac Storage and Delivery
I'm wondering what everyone does for prac storage between classes and delivering to classrooms. We currently have some old trolleys we use, but they are large, unwieldy, and the current system just isn't going to cut it for us next year. Our current system has a trolley per teacher, but with teacher...

I use a large label on the front, so it has all the required info, and a small one on the side, so I can still see what's in it!

Re: Brains, hearts, kidneys & plucks
Just got my parcel of Hearts with attachments from the local Abattoir. Seems like the Slaughterman forgot who was meant to be doing the dissections :cheesy: Oh well, I'm pleased I asked for a few extras . Disscected Hearts.jpg I've had this issue as well. Hearts, kidneys and lungs all sliced straig...

Re: Stocktake programs
There are a number of different report types on there, and they could be useful I suppose depending on what you're doing. But other than a copy of my manifest (material, volume, dg, location), I can honestly say I don't use anything like that. But then I've only been in the job for a few months, so ...

Re: Stocktake programs
I've been playing with Chemwatch attempting to run a report that would give this to you. I have found a dashboard that gives this data when set up correctly. Does this look like what you'd want?
