Re: updating SDS's

Going through ours ATM There are Hydrogen Peroxide ones for 3% ,6%,9% and 35% . (LOL all from Chemwatch of course ) I see they are stored in the fridge . Now it seems that the lower strength ones are in Risk assess labeled bottles and presumably made from diluting down the 35% solution . I was unde...

Re: Neutralisation of HCl

As a basic rule , if you have a litre of 1M HCl you can pretty well neutralise most of it with 1litre of 1M NaOH . If you have 1litre of H2SO4 1M it will take 2litres of 1M NaOH or 1Litre if 2M NaOH .(because Sulphuric has twice as many Hydrogens ) But …….. iff’n you are going to sit there and test...

Re: frozen hearts - help!

Soak them in a bucket with nappysan overnight at least, then throw in the machine. What comes out comes out and what doesn't - depends how fussy your school is. President lab coats sell theirs for a pretty good price and great quality if you need to replace. These ones are brand new! This was the f...

We use 1M for the Gal cell prac, works a treat, any lower and sometimes it's hard to see a change unless using digital multimeters.

Re: Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for removal of chemicals

Not sure about hard and fast rules....but we have removed all mercury from school. It came in about 10 years ago that mercury was being banned in research laboratories. Follow their lead, chuck it all. There is no reason you need it, so reduce your risks.

We get our rats from the pet store. Snake food, already dead and frozen, don't stress.

Re: Welcome back everyone

Ahh yes I know exactly the ones... the other one I know that broke was just your standard old Winchester. I think it stored acetonitrile before can't comment on age though. Personally I think someone was cleaning in the fumehood a little to hard and knocked the bottle against something, then a littl...

Re: Welcome back everyone

That's 2 winchesters I have heard this happening to in the last 3 months... never in my life as a lab tech has that happened before. I would suggest everyone check their old bottles. Maybe they are not as good as they used to be. I'm also going to be checking each new bottle before it gets put into...

We use a laminated cards with little circle on it that we made up. We also use food dye with a little bit of Glycerol in it so it doesn't run all over the place with surface tension. You can have a few different cards with different volumes. We also have a lot of old well plates that we roll out and...
