Re: Phenolphthalein Agar

Hi Estelle
After my previous failures trying something similar I would try a new batch. but then you cont have much time for a new batch either. But then again, you might have more luck than me. Actually, you are probably doing that prac right now. Did it work?
cheers

Re: Flame test kits

Thanks Ocker! :D Is the hole to spray into, at the front about level with the gas hose inlet? Whats the advantage of sitting the bunsen on top of the cut-off bottle - just to raise it to make it easier to spray the solution in? Or to make the neck of the bunsen level with the neck of the bottle? And...

Re: acid bay design

Hi Lada Someone just passed on a brochure to me for a drain filter made of polypropelyne fabric and organic absorbent sock that captures contaminates whilst allowing water to flow through. I dont think I'm allowed to pass on the website on the brochure. Looks like you may be able to fit retroactivel...

Re: acid bay design

Well at least with your shower curtain rail you could be very discrete in the case of needing a shower (assuming you have a shower curtain). Hey, you could even ride your bike in and have a shower and change before starting work. Very practical! We got to see the plans before they were built but did...

Re: oersteds apparatus

hey
I dont feel so silly now. I got the original apparatus to get it ready to send back and realised that on that one you cant actually unscrew the tip from inside the pole. Its stuck. That's why I couldn't work it out. :clap3:

acid bay design

Hi I was just wondering about acid bays in the newly refurbished labs. What do they look like? I was given a new chem store room a few years ago and the architect told us he had designed it according to standards (which?). I now have to concentrated acids on stone (?) shelves at head height. :yuck:...

Yes Rosalie
good idea. If they had sent any instructions at all that would have been useful. And I am female. I would have even read them!

Re: oersteds apparatus

Thanks guys! Mine does look just like the picture. And now I feel pretty silly because the pin was there all along. It was actually inside the 'pole' and had to be unscrewed and turned the other way up. It's a shame that when I rang Haines they didn't think of that. Maybe I just didn't understand wh...

oersteds apparatus

Hi everybody anyone know anything about oersteds apparatus? We bought one from Haines, thought it was missing a piece. Rang them but they couldn't help me in telling me how many pieces there should be. They sent us a new one. It looks the same. What we have is a stand, a pole that screws into it, wi...

Re: Phenolphthalein Agar

Hi Xenon

When you use the 10-dropper-bottle trays to set your agar, do you have a trick to getting the agar to come out nicely? Mine sticks to the plastic sides and refuses to come out, or sometimes half of it comes out and makes a big mess.
:yuck:

Thanks

funny bunsen story

Do you want to hear a funny story. I have been trying for two years to fix a pile of bunsens that were playing up. I read all the forums, did everything listed but still only limited success. Finally bit the bullet and ordered 10 new LPG ones. They had the same problem! Did a little investigating a...

Re: thanks to the great St Mary's Conference 2009 team

Hi Labbie
The ingredients for that chem experiment from UWS - he said it would be on the website but probably not for another week or two. He had to put it on there still and it may take him a while.
Cheers
