Re: Chemwatch have done it again

Hi Kate I think it's a great idea to hyperlink to the SDS PDF. Can I ask a question, if you don't mind? The PDF that you have hyperlinked to in Chemwatch, will the print date change to the date that you print that PDF? Or does it stay at the date that you hyperlinked it in your spreadsheet. I hope t...

Re: Ordering for Practical Lessons

Labbie, You are right that NSW DoE schools don't have to do risk assessments. Do your staff following the the guidelines that are in the CSIS manual (DET risk assessment including the DETRA protocol( (Appendix D: Generic Assessment Advice for Chemicals used in Secondary Schools)? I certainly know th...

Re: Lab designs

Bindibadgi You're lucky to have a say in the design of your new Science labs. We are having some of our labs and prep room renovated (hopefully started soon), the architect and staff from public works have come in and drawn up plans without any say from Science staff. There hasn't even been a chemic...

Macca

Do you work for a NSW DoE school? If you do, have a look under Work Health and Safety, Safety alert no. 62.

Re: Chemwatch have done it again

I only use Chemwatch for SDS's, I have my chemical stock take on Excel sheets. Maybe Alan Smith he is the Manager, Compliance and Safety, Asset Management Directorate, with NSW DoE.

Re: Ordering for Practical Lessons

Love RiskAssess, generates a risk assessment for the prac, lists requirements for prac, has a laboratory schedule, can search for 'old' pracs, generates labels for solutions. I think the cost is approximately $200.

Re: PERFORMANCE AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS

Certainly are Remlap12! I would have liked to be offered training in LMBR. However, if and when I am asked to do a PDP, that will will be one of my goals (heaven to forbid, I can't wait to see the reaction of the SAM). Fourteen years ago when I was a casual I was asked to work in Science (LSL replac...

Re: PERFORMANCE AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS

Thanks everyone for your feedback. The Head Teacher, Learning & Support (for teachers) has approached my SAM (she is in charge of professional development for SAS staff) but apparently she was very negative, all her time is being taken up with LMBR at the moment. My school has advertised for a n...

PERFORMANCE AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS

A question for lab assistants that currently work in NSW DET schools. Has anyone started the Performance and Development Plan process? If so, is the SAM or Head Teacher classified as the PDP Supervisor? By the way, I have not been approached by either the SAM or HT regarding this, I have familarised...

I know when started 13 years ago, the Chemistry teacher asked for wool glass. I didn't have any, so I ordered it, for next time. I've never been asked for it since.

Re: SDS

Labbie " All chemicals ordered this year, must have a SDS with them. I think that is Australia wide." When I ordered chemicals at the beginning of the year, I specifically wrote on the order for them to supply SDS with the chemicals. I did receive SDS, however, they weren't SDS from the ch...

Re: How are you purchasing chemicals & Groceries

NSW DET school - I order my chemicals with a Science Supply company i.e. Science Supply, Haines, Westlab etc along with any equipment that is needed (via the office, I complete an internal order form). Grocery items, I did a big shop at the beginning of this term as we have a Woolworths account, but...

Re: DEC Schools CSIS portal has a new look

Just had a look at the website. To me, it looks like DEC have created a 'modern' looking website, and transferred the 'old' printed information in the CSIS Manual to the website. It looks like the information hasn't been updated at all, e.g. I looked at the labeling section, which we all know has ch...

I have just ordered chemicals, I have added to the order "please ensure you provide your chemicals with the new GHS label format and Safety Data Sheets". It will be interesting what I receive.

Did anyone else see the PSA SAS staff member bulletin, apparently school SAM's will be be supervising all SAO positions, which includes SAO's working in Science (NSW DoE schools) with their PDP's. Won't that be interesting?

Still running around organising pracs, we have 2 days of STEM activities to go. As I said to my HT, looks like I will be cleaning labs next Monday while everyone else having a special x-mas lunch. She has got the students to roughly count the equipment in the labs for me the replace, let me tell you...
