I have been told that my main store room is being reclaimed to make a large Math/Science staff room Its replacement is a room on the first floor up 17 stairs!  I have other thoughts, claiming a long thin book room, and more storage in my Chemical store and renovating one of the other ...

I think I should go into the Silver Nitrate black market.
I have been here 20 years and have NEVER purchased a new bottle of Silver nitrate.
I have 475gms of silver Nitrate still left
At $100 + for 25 gms I am sitting on a fortune!
Even at around $400 for 100gms its worth a lot. :w00t:

I am doing my SDS' from Chem Supply so thought while I was on the site to check for Nonanoic and Heptanoic acid.
Both appear to be available at a price of $39/$35 for only 25 mls.
My thought is too expensive for limited use

Re: Oil for separation and rusting pracs

For rusting nails we use small 50ml specimen jars.
Oily ones get tossed and the others just get washed, if there is still a rust stain it doesn't matter as that is what the jar will be used for next time too.
These jars are invaluable for many other uses also

Not that I will be here that long, 2 years will see me out.

Pity it is the same with the amount of Potassium Dichromate, Potassium Chromate, Lead salts, mercury salts. etc.
There heaps of those also.

Earlier today a teacher who had ordered Copper wire and Silver Nitrate solution for a displacement reaction asked me if the Silver Nitrate was expensive. Re: Ethanol in Universal Indicator Solution

We go through over 4 litres of Universal indicator each year so I make my own rather than purchasing. Many years ago the lab assistant that I worked with ( that was back when there was one full time labby and one .8, now there is just me) decided to use Metho instead to cut costs. She got the correc...
