Re: Limit on number of Practicals done each week?

Hopefully my bosses don't see this. I work in a small by Tasmanian standards college (Years 11 and 12 only) and if I worked out my service factor correctly it does not start with a 0, and even if I include 2 subjects that run in the science block that aren't strictly science then it still does not s...

I contacted IEC as LABAX does not seem to exist anymore and they sent me the instructions for their newer model and did not have the instructions for that model
Thanks

Re: Ordering for Practical Lessons

This is the first year the teachers have booked their pracs online via Risk Assess. When I set it up, I let them know that I would need at least a weeks notice for most pracs. They started out well, but are slipping already! So I've set mine for 5 days ;) WOW I wish Wowsers at least a week, we have...

So I have 2 types (illustrated below) of Geiger Counters/Timer Counter Scaler Frequency apparatus and am after the instructions for them or if anyone has knowledge of how...

3D Printing

Hi all,

Does anyone do much 3D printing? If so do you have some favourite bits that you have printed and found useful in your work?
Thanks

Science Assist Available 2022

Funding has been received from the Federal Government to enable Science Assist to continue in 2022, however you still need to register and pay, although the fee has been reduced for Australian Schools to $100.00 excluding GST. I just read about this in the March edition of Teaching Science, the Aust...

Re: 12V Lamp globes

I know places like Supercheap Auto etc sell 12v/5w for stop or tail lights which have two base contacts and offset pins. They also sell festoon bulbs (interior light bulbs) in that rating and also wedge globes in that rating. They all may be different to what you need as I not sure what you are usin...

Gloves and allergies

Hi all, Any advice would be appreciated: I have an allergy to latex so don't use latex gloves and usually use nitrile gloves, however now it seems I am developing an allergy to nitrile gloves, can anyone suggest a suitable replacement type of disposable glove or what do you do if this is the same fo...

Re: Phenolphthalein Agar

If you are worried place it in either NaOH (if its the clear one) or an acid (if its the pink one) as I believe the pH should be neutral or close to when the colour has changed to the opposite so pink to clear or clear to pink, drain and then throw in bin or just throw straight into bin

Destroying Aluminium Oxide layer

Hi all, A Teacher has provided me with an experiment that uses Mercury (II) Chloride to remove the Aluminium Oxide layer on a piece of polished Aluminium foil, now I looked at Riskassess and it says Mercury(II) Chloride <0.004 M (<0.1% wt/wt) is a Teacher only chemical. They now wish me to find an a...

Hi all, Just wondering if many of you do anything with Electronics? I do a bit and my current (sorry for the pun) issue is with soldering Surface Mount Device (SMD) LEDs and was wondering if anyone had any experience that they could pass on. I need to replace the SMD LEDs in a couple of microscopes ...
