Re: FUME CUPBOARDS
Have you tried contacting Workcover? they may be able to help. Also are you a member of a Union? because you could contact them as well. Our fume cupboards seem to be tested every 6 months or so, but it must just be the extraction system, as 1 of the cupboards in the classroom has a broken screen an...

Re: What Do You Tell People?
The Unions only have about 40% of support staff registered with them. However its only in the last 12 months that the AEU have had 2 dedicated support staff officers who people from Victoria may know (Don and Linda Wishart) which is good and I believe today the Minister announced some changes for Te...

Re: Science Competitions
In about 30 minutes I will be heading out onto the oval with a Class of Grade 7 students and a teacher. The kids are using old soft drink bottles to see who's rocket gets the longest flight. They are using Water, Citric Acid and Bicarb soda apparently this reacts slower than vinger and bicarb and th...

The Regional Technicians Group (http://www.rtg.wa.edu.au/repairs/repindex.htm) website from WA have a repairs section and it talks in there about repairing Rheostats but not sure if this covers the problem that you are having or not.

Re: LSL
In Tasmania, the least amount of LSL you can is 5 working days and you can take all of it in one go if you wish, still about 5 years away for me though even though I have been working on and off for the Education Department since 1997, most of that was relief/casual and didn't accumulate LSL or the ...

Re: What Do You Tell People?
In Tassie, 4 weeks annual leave and I could take up to a year without pay. However I will not take time off without pay as about 40% of my take home pay a fortnight goes on my home loan. Cleaners get longer time off as they accumulate RDO's. We have a situation where the Teachers Aides, some office ...

What Do You Tell People?
Hi all Not sure if this involves everyone, but what do you tell people what you do when they assume that you have the same holidays as the teachers because you work in schools? and also what do you say when they say "what do you do when the teachers and students are not there?" I mean I ju...

Re: How Many Days Till Christmas?
Heading over that little piece of water of water from the Apple Isle to the Big Smoke of Melbourne. Leaving at 6.00am on Christmas morning, so that I can arrive and will not have to do much to help in the preperations. Spending it with my brothers who both live over there, usually they come over her...

Re: Enzyme Experiments.
it is very dissapointing for students if they don't get the expected results! A Science teacher I had in High School said "That in Science if you get something 100% correct then you have done something wrong" and I try and tell the students that if I am helping them out with a prac., most...

Re: Stocktake Time
I use a combination of the excel document and the Chemgold Manifest, thats what I do when the teachers and students are enjoying their long summer break and this year its an even longer break for them as I only have 12 days leave rather than the 20 I usually have. I also was told at a OH&S cours...

Re: Victorian Lab Techs
In Tasmania we have a seperate Laboratory Technicians Assocation, which is as far as I know not affiliated with the Science Teachers Assocation. I mean its a whole different situation in Victoria with the distances involved. We usually hold a annual meeting/get together which we make in the middle o...

Not sure if this is correct or is any help but the MSDS that I have for Ammonium Phosphate has one of the synonyms as Ammonium Orthophosphate and its product use is "Flameproofing of wood, paper and textiles." most likely not what you are looking for.

Solar Power Question
Hi all Just to see what happened I set up a small (1.5V) solar panel and voltmeter (set on 2V dc)to see what happened. It was positioned near a window, on a day when it was totally blue sky, the voltage on the meter was about .75V and then today when its overcast it was about 1.3V(the panel was in t...

Hi Joy
I understand that the DataHarvest ones are fine if you are using a PC not a MAC, so if you can find a good deal on those I would go for them.

Re: Dataloggers and Mac Computers
Well that is just stupid that a company would make something that used to come with MAC software but then decided to stop supplying the latest software for it. Sorry I cannot help you though.
