Re: Broken glassware

I hadn't thought about the glass not being able to be recycled.
I won't feel so guilty now when I put it in the skip bin.

Re: Grants for prep rooms

Hi guys,
I hate to be a spoil sport but we were told the money for new labs. doesn't include prep room upgrades.
If your prep room is dangerous though I would be letting the OH&S committee know before there is a serious accident.
Good luck.

Re: Broken glassware

Thanks for that info. everyone. We have special bins for broken glass but the teachers get the kids to sweep up the glass which is how the accident happened. As we have labs in 3 different areas I can't be there to pick up the pieces in all areas so will have to suggest the teachers do the clean up ...

Broken glassware

Hi everyone, Just wondering how every one deals with the glassware that gets broken in the labs. Do you have broken glass bins in each lab? Do the students clean up the broken glass or is this the responsibility of the teacher? We had a girl cut herself putting some glass in the broken glass bin so ...

Re: When Deputies Attack...

What a classic!
Here the main concern seems to be that every one has their top button done up. Doesn't matter what you are doing as long as that top button is secure.

Re: 50th Anniversary

Good idea Richard,
There are a few girls here who would be very upset if their hair was messed up a bit. What would the boys at the station think?
I did find an old cane in the store room so haven't completely discounted the idea of a thrashing.

50th Anniversary

Hi everyone, Our school is having their 50th anniversary and we are putting on a science show for open day. We are already doing a few fun chemistry things but does anyone have any ideas of anything we could do to recreate an old fashioned science lesson. it would have to be legal to do it now. ( Ou...

Re: indicators

Hi Rosalie, I just checked my recipes. Litmus says boil 10gms in 500mls distilled water. Stand until powder settles and filter. I guess this is similiar to yours. My Bromothymol blue recipe says only 0.1g in a litre of distilled water. If green add .4% NaOH a drop at a time until it turns blue. Don'...

Re: Storage of metal stock

Hi Sue,
I have just checked this as our metals are stored with the NR chemicals too. According to the CSIS book zinc metal, lead and copper are all NR so can be stored in that section.
Hope that helps.

Hi Rosalie,
Serrata has some in their general laboratory section of their catalogue. I don't know if they are the same as Haines.
Their phone number is 9651 3033 and they are in Galston.

Hey Guys, I spoke to the Q stores rep. and told them that the office max markers were useless and she said they had been getting a few complaints so she was going to look into it.
