lab position
Thinking of taking time off here at Wollumbin High possibly for last half of this term and next term. I have a casual who covers me every second friday but she is great at cleaning up but no other experience. I need someone who can use mix and handle chemicals, otherwise I would be coming back to ch...

Re: Fixing alcohol thermometers
I'm not sure if the way I do it is right or not but it seems to work. I carefully kind of wave the bottom of the thermometer back and forward through the heat of a bunsen until the alcohol meets again, then quickly take it out of the heat. You just have to keep an eye on it as it heats up. I've done...

Re: chemwatch TODAY
Yes I know there are private schools on this site too but it would be handy to put the public url on to save some hassle. You still need a user name and password to access it.

can anyone recommend a dishwasher for science
Hi All, My dishwasher that is about 12 years old isn't working like it should anymore. Admin seems to think that I need practice washing up.... That's not going to happen.. So, if anyone can recommend a dishwasher that hopefully will last as long as the simpson that I had, I would love to hear from ...

Re: extra assistance
I can relate to this post. I took every second friday LWOP last year so the school got funding to replace me in science, which worked out well. The friday casual got to do the jobs that I didn't have time for during the week. I also do the ordering in oasis and smartbuy for the whole school, I go to...

Re: What the ....!!!!????????
What a classic!! New female teacher here, came marching up to my desk and asked, "Do I have balls?" I replied "I'd like to think not, but then again round here you are probably going to need them" I laughed for ages at the way she said it. (We are doing pracs using rulers, tennis...

Re: In need to help with text books
Hello,
Don't worry about the postage. Hope the books are helpful. It's still a mystery as to where the physics books went. I've searched high and low for them. If they ever surface I will send them on if you still need them.
Estelle.
Have a great year.

Re: Burning prac
The fumes alone would knock me out for the day. We used to do the burning of alcohols etc. on watch glasses. Metho, kerosene, methanol, ethanol, until a student put her hand on the burning methanol or ethanol which wasn't visible while burning. Ever seen those race car drivers running around after a...

Re: In need to help with text books
I just found another 6. Yours if you want them.
I'm not going to the conference and I live in northern NSW.
I'll see about postage but it may not be worth the cost.
I'll get back to you.

Re: Cheap slinky
Short slinkys, no problem, send them to some of the students here! Standing joke between my friday casual and myself now. I stuffed one of the 2 metre long overstretched slinkys by the students, into a plastic beaker, put sticky tape across the top and then on her friday job list, asked her if she c...

Re: Chart storage
I took the cheapskate option for hanging posters. I put a curtain rod between the metal bays in the store room, brought wire coat hangers and pegs and I hang the posters off them.

Marine teacher has requested 3 new filters for the tanks in his room because they have all stopped working. I just checked them, I thought the sponge filters were brown, turns out after I gave them a good clean that they are actually blue filters. Plus found a dead fish stuck behind one filter, judg...
