I'm not sure you can make a 5M CuSO4....according to the bible (ie. The Laboratory) a saturated solution of CuSO4 is 22.3 g in 100 mL which is pretty close to 1M I think????

It's essentially the same as the demo we do here.....a small amount of the salt in a crucible lid with a small volume of ethanol lit with a long match.

I put a few drops of Universal Indicator in the water and freeze. It's not blue, but it doesn't settle out like food colouring.

Mine plays up every now and then, after I spent a ridiculous amount of time cleaning it up!! I sometimes still get the multiple suppliers thing even when I've selected the right supplier. I'm on record (a broken one, at that) as calling Chemwatch a huge pain in the proverbial and completely unsuited...

It's the same as it's always been....why would it be different now?
We only sample fomites or water and the plates are not opened after incubation.

I try to limit the use of metals by encouraging mico-chemistry (I'm not always successful!) and we we don't use any lead salts at all; I recently banned potassium permanganate because it's so hard to dispose of.
