Re: Spectrum Tubes

We use an IEC EHV 0-6000V power supply which works. Can also be used for cathode ray tubes, Maltese Cross, paddle wheel etc. It's worth investing in for ease of use.

Re: Flame Test

The flame colour depends on the metal cation so strontium carbonate and strontium chloride should give the same result. We use strontium chloride and it works well.

Re: unknown anions

Do you use the Risk Assess program by Phillip Crisp? If so you can do a search of previous years RA (assuming this prac has been done in previous years)

Re: Dilution

Use the formula C1 x V1 = C2 x V2 where C is the concentration and V is the volume, 1 is the first solution and 2 is the second So if you wanted to prepare 100ml of 0.002M solution from a 0.1M solution V1 = (C2 x V2) / C1 = (0.002M x 0.1L) / 0.1M = 0.002L which is 2ml So pipette 2ml of the 0.1M solu...

Food technology ordering program

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if there is an equivalent to RiskAssess for Food Technology? How does the Food Tech assistant at your school keep track of orders/prep for practical classes?

Any info would be appreciated

Re: Hydrochloric Acid

I'm thinking: C1 x V1 = C2 x V2 To make up 100ml of 1M (32% HCl assumed to be 12M) 12 x V1 = 1 x 0.1 V1 = 8.33ml So the 100ml of 1M HCl contains 8.3ml 32% HCl To make up 1L of 2M 12 x V1 = 2 x 1 V1 = 166.66ml So the 1L of 2M HCl should contain 166.66ml 32% HCl But you already have 8.33ml of it in th...

We purchased the Dynamic cart and Track system which has been used in Physics and Investigating Science. Teachers and students found it easy to download software onto their laptops, set up and use.

I'm assuming you would need to follow the above guidelines and have a policy? Or is that only for vertebrates?

Potassium iodide is usually reacted with lead nitrate to give a bright yellow precipitate.
Could it be that your potassium iodide is contaminated?

Re: MTA products going downhill fast?

I am disappointed with the service at MTA. I have sent multiple emails to seek assistance to 3 different people (our assigned sales support person, technical person and general sales enquiry) over a period of a month and have as yet to hear from any of them. I will not be using MTA for any of our or...

From the recipe section of Pearson Chem 12 to prepare 0.0002M iron(III) thiocyanate

pipette 10ml 0.002M KSCN into a 100ml volumetric flask
make up to 100ml with 0.002M Fe(NO3)3
make fresh as solution degrades
