Re: Dry Ice SDS
I also transport about 1kg of dry ice around 4 km.
I put it in the boot of my hatchback - separated from the driver and keep the windows open - adequate ventilation.
I have to say that I would baulk at transporting any amount 70km in my car.

Re: Airconditioning labs
Feeling for you! We have evap cooling in our labs & most of the time it's great. However, when we have a run of humid weather (about 2 weeks a year), the evap struggles & can't cope...isn't it autumn yet?!?!? And to top it off, one of our coolers has sprung a leak.

We buy our brains from a local butcher, and get our hearts & plucks from the abattoirs for free! I'd suggest making a few calls to see what your local suppliers offer...

Re: rat dissection
We also buy preserved rats from Southern Biological. The preservative isn't that bad, and yes it is safe for the kiddies. They sell pregnant rats as well, although they are more expensive. The last pregnant rat we dissected yielded 12 lovely babies. We have preserved them in a 50% ethanol solution a...

Our neighbour is a farmer, and he disposes of small dead animals on a handy ants nest.
Not sure how they'd go with the ethanol.

I'd love to think you could build a bonfire & burn them.
It would be fun, but not allowed...

You can buy remagnetisers, I'm not sure how much they cost or how effective they are though. The one I've seen came from Scientrific.

Re: Laboratory Skills Course
Armidale TAFE are running a Cert III next year through distance ed, with 5 or 6 weekend residentials during the year. The advertised course fee is $2660 subsidised by the government, or $3300 full fee. I'm enrolling & hopefully they'll get enough participants so they don't have to cancel it.

Re: Is their a list for casual work, for SAO
Hey Superbug,
You need to apply through a school to get your number, at least that's how I got mine a few years ago. They needed me for casual work so I filled out the forms they gave me & they sent them away for me.

Re: Is their a list for casual work, for SAO
Thanks Superbug, Once your son has his number, it is the same at all public schools. No idea how it works in the private system though... If he is flexible, he is more likely to get work too. I work in science, food tech, school office, and SLSO. Depends on the day and the school! They call, I say y...

Re: Is their a list for casual work, for SAO
As a casual, I wish there was a central list out there for me to join! As far as I am aware, each school has their own list of casuals they call on when needed. It may be different in major cities, but that's how it works here in the country... I got my start by volunteering at each school I was int...

Re: Fridges in Lab prep areas
Some people seem to have no idea. Personally, I never bring food into the lab area at all, let alone store it with chemicals, bugs, and unknown life forms... Still, it takes all kinds.
