just had a flick through the list of pracs and we had all of the equipment other than the pump and tube. The only thing we needed that we had to order were e-coli plates, effervescent tablets, lollies, biscuits, soaps and a couple of extra rubber mallets

Merilyn1 I did exactly that but I took it home because I wouldn't be in for a few days now I cant remember the nice warm spot I put it in ohmy

I made agar plates with a student using the recipe on science assist

agar, beef stock and peptone

there was no mention of the NaCl in the recipe above


are these going to work? I'd hate her project to not have any results

thank you for the reply. I had a look through yesterday found the classifications it seems like it class 1, found the agar disposal but couldn't find the broth disposal, I have a few litres of it. it is a big document I'll keep reading

Bin them would be my decision too. There are about 20 in the bin already that have their bottom broken out and about thirty with chipped rims in the container for me to fix. who has the time for this??

chipped test tubes

I have some chipped pyrex test tubes left on the bench with a note to repair them.....do I just hold the chip in the blue flame to take the sharpness off the edge? thankyou 8-[

CSIS says DO put down the sink but chemwatch says in red DO NOT

I imagine 10+yrs ago when CSIS was written that was the recommendation but I'm inclined to follow chemwatch recommendations as its the most up to date however it doesnt say how to dispose only how not to....

Potassium Permanganate disposal

After the Osmosis and Diffusion prac I have 5L of this to dispose of.
I have read the disposal section of the SDS and wondered if anyone could explain how they dispose of this?
I'm putting on the dunce-hat because it was as clear as mud :?

wouldn't the original container type be regulated quite strictly to ensure suitability and chosen by the manufacturer?
