Re: PD days during holidays
why is one evening "compulsory"? If you are doing school work and not just socialising, I would be expecting to get paid for it (or time in lieu) personally. Any PD I do in my holidays for the job I do not have to work (I am a labbie at 2 schools) I take time in lieu for it. As they are ve...

Re: PD days during holidays
I'm sure we will sort something out with the childcare but I think what I am getting at really is the "compulsory" part of going away and being expected to do these things when we are term time only. I would say that it cannot be compulsory unless you are paid for the PD. Even then, depen...

Re: PD days during holidays
Is there someone else who can look after them for you? Relative? Friend? I love going on PD (sad I know lol) but my kids attend daycare (under school aged)/vacation care (schoolies) and if for some reason my DH has work commitments that make it difficult, mum looks after them.

Re: Chemwatch for Independent schools
I was told that a manufacters MSDS was preferable, but if that could not be sourced, then a generic chemwatch one was fine. If I cannot find the manufacturers msds online and once wasn't provided, then I use the chemwatch ones.

How do I find out what are the 96 chemicals of security concern? Your PD sounds like it was amazing.

Re: PD day on chemical security
at the moment peroxide and bromine are in a fridge accessible by students, and HOD wants them left there WOW our students don't have access to the prep. room. our teachers don't even have access to the chemical rooms. My HT has a key if I'm not here and the office for emergencies. Only myself (my j...

Re: PD day on chemical security
Trish, it comes into play in Aus on 1st Jan 2012. Worksafe Australia has info you can download. Basically it means slightly changed classification of chemicals and different labels and MSDS's. Pictograms are slightly different and then have implemented hazard phrases as well as pictograms.

Narelle, the template gallery is the options that come up with the type of labels you can print eg. small label 3 to a page that sort of thing. There are a few GHS label in there.

Re: Calcium Oxide Classification
I always thought the mini MSDS was not a leagl document anyway, just a summary if needed, and the full MSDS is the legal document which must be followed. The mini MSDS for Calcium Oxide does come in Orange (moderate risk) and does indicate it is corrosive (pictagram lower left hand side) and also st...

Our P&F are buying us a digital microscope!
So anyone have any recomendations. HOD wanted something more then 1.3MP resolution and that is all I can find on my quick look around.

Has anyone ever sourced one of these in the southern states?
I have been asked if I could get one for dissection, but I think my chances here in Tas are pretty slim. Any ideas?

Re: Has any one got two labbies?
Liz, you are spot on. How "management" cannot appreciate, when put on paper in front of them, the incredibly difficult circumstances some labbies work under, is beyond me. It needs a collective voice to get the message heard and I can only hope that the NSW labbies particularly, can get ch...
