Re: Disease prac

Hi. We are about to do this prac next week. In the past I have always made up the plates by using nutrient agar which is available from any of the science suppliers. We have had success with this prac each time. I feel very lucky this year because the Science Co ordinator said instead of making the ...

Re: Sulfuric acid Accident

This is scary. We do tend to get complacent in our jobs. I have just started ordering acids in 500ml containers this year. Although I have one of those winchester carriers I find the larger bottles too cumbersome. I am glad to hear that Rosalie is on the mend. Take care everyone.

Re: Phenolphthalein agar disaster

Hi there, this is my recipe for agar which always seems to work really well, but before I pour all the plates I will always pour one first as a test to see if it is going to set. Measure out 1 litre of water, and 20 gms agar powder. Using some of the water previously measured out, I make the agar in...

Re: Vic Govt Schools new SSO agreement negotiations

Hi there, Sue and others, I think it would be a good idea for us to know what things you are negotiating for so that we know whether or not we need to add anything. I would like recognition of my 26 years as a lab tech. I am still only an SSO 1 now, (was an SSO 2-5) I applied for a promotion to SSO ...

Hello everybody, I was wondering what sort of power supplies you use for year 11 and 12 physics. We have just purchased some high power voltage 0-500V but now feel they are too high for the students to use. Have you done a RA for the use of your power supplies. Are there any special OH&S rules w...

Hi Nikki I use this method all the time now and never have a problem. I measure out the quantiy of water required into a large beaker and then add a little of this into a paper cup which already has the measured quantiy of agar in it.I then add a small amount of the water to make a smooth paste. Aft...
