Re: Silver Chloride

Halogen precipitates. They originally asked for potassium fluoride but we don't have that as it is Yr 11 & 12 or teacher use only in the ACT.

Re: Silver Chloride

Thanks TirzahKat. That is the information I was getting from Google as well.
I have spoken to the teacher and they have thankfully opted not to use it.

I have not been able to find any information in the labbie 'bible' - The Laboratory, nor when I googled. I need this solution (if possible) by 11:30. Help........

Yes. As our numbers have dropped so has my time in Science. I am currently classed as 50% science and 50% Admin.
I don't mind the split although at times it has been interesting when I find myself running betweeen the two for various reasons.

How do you test the energy in sugar?

Hi Everyone, I have been asked to look for a prac that will test the energy in sugar. I have tried various ways of typing in the question in google and here and have not found what the teacher is looking for. She suggested that there was a test you could do by boiling up a leaf and breaking down the...

I actually bought some of this a few months ago for my daughter. It is amazing. You really have to apply a thick coat though for it to work properly. It looks fantastic once dry!

Hi,
You can buy fast plant seeds from the CSIRO green machine. They are $15 a packet and we use them every year very successfully.

Re: SOMETHING FOR NOTHING

We received a huge pile of film cannisters from a photography shop - handy for dry ice pracs and for small items such as thumb tacks, pins, small pieces of metal samples. I also save the roll from the paper towel in the loos when I change them. Very handy for storing metal rods, glass rods etc and a...

Souj,
What a fantastic idea. My supply of bean bag balls has dwindled over the past few years due to being kept in an old icecream container - easy to tip over. I will now keep them in a reagent bottle.

Why not try a spray gloss from the hardware store. Easy to apply and gives a protective coating.

I know of a school here with over 1000 students and 1 full time labbie. Technically they should have 1 1/2 full-timers but it is up to the school if they wish to employ a second one or not. Not sure if that is the same way it works in NSW or not.

Re: Water bath

Sounds funny, but you can get a heat ring for home brewing. Not too sure as to the cost though. It slips around the brewing vat. You can also get a heat mat that you sit the vat on. Check home brewing stores or websites. :giggle:
